Two newcomers were the top vote-getters in Tuesday’s election for Beloit School Board.
Juan Romero led the field with 3,721 votes, while JoAnne Ruch got 3,278 and incumbent Megan Miller got 3,220 to hold her seat on the board.
Gregg Schneider, the other incumbent in the race, got the fewest number of votes.
With outsiders taking the top two spots in balloting and an operational referendum failing to pass a public vote for the third consecutive year, Romero says it’s a sign voters were looking for change after years of distrust with the district and school board.
The failure of the referendum means the school board and district administrators will have to continue navigating increasingly treacherous budgetary waters heading into the 2025-26 school year.
