In Rock County, big crowds are showing up to vote early for the April 1 election.
Janesville City Clerk Lori Stottler says since early voting opened earlier this month, a few days have rivaled early-voting foot traffic for some fall Presidential elections.
Statewide, clerks are reporting big turnout for in-person absentee voting. Election analysts say the state Supreme Court election between judges Brad Schimel and Susan Crawford is likely the biggest driver.
Stottler says the Janesville City Clerk’s office has been seeing hundreds of early voters a day — a 35-percent jump in early voting compared to the spring 2023 election.
She says the city predicts it’ll see about 7,000 early ballots cast by mail or in person.
That means if the city sees election day foot traffic on April 1 that is similar to recent years, it could topple the 43-percent countywide turnout in Rock County in spring 2023.
Wisconsin had a state Supreme Court election that year, too.
Early voting runs through Friday.
