If you’re having a cup of coffee on the patio at Havana Coffee in Janesville, you can watch a commercial construction project that just launched at the southern end of Milton Avenue’s retail corridor.
Havana Coffee operator Daniela Samara has broken ground on a new building just across the street from her coffee shop.
Samara says people should see a new, two-story building with a drive-thru start to rise along 1247 Milton Avenue in the coming weeks. That’s the former vacant lot between the Advanced Auto Parts store and Domino’s Pizza.
Samara says the 6,800-square-foot building will be suited for many different uses, including restaurant space, office space and retail space.
Samara says she’s had some customers at Havana Coffee ask her if Havana plans to move across the street to her new shop.
Samara says for now, Havana Coffee will not be moving.
She says it’s possible the coffee shop could move to new digs across the street at some point, but that’s not the plan right away.
Samara says both she and customers like Havana’s current location at 1250 Milton Avenue, a space Samara leases but renovated from its former use as a commercial garage.
Havana has been at its current location since 2019.
Samara expects she’ll have good luck inking tenants at the new building across the street, in part because of its location along the same spur of Milton Avenue as the future Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center.
