Woodman’s Center on pace to open in fall, manager says events there could draw 4,000 people a weekend

The Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center is coming together fast. Big Radio takes a tour of the future ice hockey, sports and convention Center.

JP Cullen project supervisor Sean Kennedy showed Big Radio around the 130,000 square-foot arena … where all but the front vestibule is now under roof, heated, and about 65 percent built out.

Kennedy says the $48-million Woodman’s Center is on track to open this fall as main user the Janesville Jets ice hockey team starts training.

Crews are finishing building out the 20,000-square-foot shell of the Woodman’s Center’s flexible convention space. Farther south at the property at 2500 Milton Avenue, they’re installing sand that’s the base for the Woodman’s Center’s two-sheet ice arena.

Newly hired Woodman’s Center General manager Tony Thiry says based on regional interest in sports bookings, he expects to see as many as 4,000 people in and out of the Woodman’s Center on weekends.
