Beloit school officials conduct some referendum outreach.

School District of Beloit Superintendent Dr. Willie Garrison hosted an informational session Thursday at Beloit Public Library where he and other district leaders explained how portions of the $40.25 million the district is requesting from taxpayers would be spent over the next three school years.

About $12 million would go toward teacher raises, a little more than $1.5 million would go toward curriculum and technology investments to improve reading and math performance, and about $2.8 million would be used to hire 15 employees whose focus would be behavioral and disciplinary matters.

Garrison also warned that without the referendum, the district would be forced into further budgetary shortfalls in coming years and the only way to solve those would be millions of dollars more in cuts to staffing, services and programs.
