Prep work for the next round of Janesville school referendum projects is underway.

Superintendent Mark Holzman told the school board at its meeting Tuesday night that architects and engineers are on site in six district buildings to verify that the district’s blueprints accurately depict the physical structures present.

Those facilities are Jefferson, Lincoln and Wilson elementary schools; Craig and Parker high schools; and the Educational Services Center.

District administrators are also assessing the space needs for students with disabilities.

Holzman says all that work will help ensure accuracy when the bidding process rolls around late this year and into 2026.

Holzman also told the board it will soon be asked to set a time frame for the district to borrow the $151.8 million that was approved in the 2024 referendum.

An early estimate for the interest rate on that money was 5.25%; Holzman says the district anticipates getting a lower rate than that.
