Janesville Transit is recognizing Rosa Parks this week as a civil rights icon and public transit rider. Transit Director Rebecca Smith says this recognition is part of Transit Equity Day, which coincides with the February 4th birthday of Parks. Special signage and a flower was placed on each bus in Janesville to memorialize Parks’ courage to stand and make transit equitable for all. Smiths says Parks serves as a symbol for the emerging movement to extend civil rights to all Americans. She also believes public transit is one way the community can experience freedom, independence and accessibility.
