The School District of Beloit’s business services director has resigned.

Bob Chady’s resignation, effective April 4, was approved as part of employment recommendations during a special meeting of the school board on April 17.

Superintendent Dr. Willie Garrison says the small team left in the district’s business office will continue its work under Finance Director Stephanie Ellwood.

“Superintendents, we typically pride ourselves on having systems in place for the work to continue,” Garrison said. “Mr. Chady left some things in place that we can actually still continue to work. We do have a very small team of business people right now, but the work is still being done and is still being conducted.”

With the district facing cuts totaling more than $6 million to balance the 2025-26 budget after a $40.25 million operational referendum failed earlier this month, school board President Tia Johnson says it’s not a given Chady’s position will be filled.

“Obviously, we lost the referendum by a narrow margin, and I think before we even get to talking about what that hiring process would be, is which positions in the district we may need to eliminate,” Johnson said.

Chady had been with the district for two years and had become a key figure as the district office grappled with chronic budget shortfalls.

Referendums also failed in 2023 and 2024.
