A 41-year-old Janesville man who injured two small children in a drunken e-bike crash won’t have to spend any time behind bars if he successfully completes four years of probation.
According to online court records, Kevin Gerard must also complete an AODA assessment and a Department of Corrections approved parenting class.
Gerard plead guilty in January to second-degree recklessly endangering safety. An additional charge of neglecting a child causing bodily harm was dismissed but read into the record.
According to the criminal complaint, Janesville Police were dispatched to the area of West Delavan Drive and South Jackson Street on the report of an accident with injury on June 27th.
Witnesses reported that a man had been traveling on an electric bike pulling a carrier with two children inside when he crashed at a high rate of speed.
Gerard admitted that he had been drinking prior to going for a ride with his kids.
One of the children, a two-year-old boy, was unconscious following the crash and had to be transported to a Madison hospital via helicopter.
