Milton’s common council put a bow on one long-term project and started the ball rolling on another at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The council, including newly elected members Molly Budlong and Derek Henze, unanimously approved the city’s new zoning code and zoning map that had been in the works for months. City Administrator Paul Hensch has previously said the changes to the code are designed to allow for more mixed-use development and add to the city’s housing stock.

Members also voted on an engineering firm that will conduct facilities planning services for the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Strand Associates out of Madison got the nod.

The company’s engineers previously designed one of the plant’s pollutant removal processes that has been in place since 1996 and oversaw the facility’s last major upgrade project back in 2002.
