A local wins the Ice Age Trail Alliance’s top volunteer award.
Dennis James of Janesville won the group’s Spirit Stick Award last weekend in Cross Plains. He’s the coordinator of the alliance’s Rock County chapter.
The Spirit Stick Award, based on the European wood spirit legend, goes to a volunteer who represents dedication, enthusiasm and a commitment to service.
James has been volunteering on the trail for 15 years and helps with trail maintenance and also advocates for trail usage in the community.
Others from Rock County were also honored at the alliance’s annual award ceremony last week.
Chuck Jackson of Milton received the alliance’s “In the Mud” award for his consistent work on projects and epitomizing the volunteer spirit. Nine other local volunteers were also recognized for hitting volunteer milestones, including Rita Fox of Edgerton reaching the 3,000-hour mark.
