A police pursuit in Dane County.

The chase started at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with an incident in the 500 block of Hillside Road in the town of Albion, east of Highway 73 and the Interstate.

Authorities say a man was acting erratically and tried to hit two people with his SUV. One of those people fired a warning shot, fearing for their safety. One suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was treated at a hospital.

A DNR warden was the first officer to attempt to stop the suspect, but he kept fleeing. The State Patrol joined the chase along Interstate 39/90, and Dane County sheriff’s deputies placed stop strips.

The suspect hit one of the strips just north of the beltline and was taken into custody and admitted to a hospital.

Initial pending charges against the 34-year-old Madison man include two counts each of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and disorderly conduct.
