The first day of the child sexual assault jury trial for a 27-year-old Beloit man sees testimony from the first responding officer, the victim’s mother, and the nine-year-old victim who was seven at the time of the alleged assaults.
Cody Markham is charged in Rock County Court with repeated sexual assault of the same child and incest.
Markham is accused of raping and sodomizing a child he is related to beginning in January of 2024 when they were seven-years-old.
It was the same victim that 53-year-old Kelly Faye Markham and 57-year-old Spencer Markham of Janesville – Cody’s parents – were convicted of sexually assaulting when they were only five years old in 2021.
Spencer Markham is currently serving 30 years in prison. Kelly Markham was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Markham’s attorney Steven Zaleski maintains that the victim was recalling details from previous sexual assaults; and that they lied about incidents with Cody Markham because they wanted to live with their mother.
