Our Kwik Trip radar is always up, and this time, we’re picking up signals the gas station convenience store chain could be coming to Newville.

It’s early in planning, but the town of Fulton, the city of Edgerton and Rock County have OK’d land division maps for a new Kwik Trip gas station store at Highway 59 and Kenlyn Lane.

The location is along a spur of Highway 59 that is a busy nexus of commuter and vacationer traffic — and it would be adjacent to several campgrounds clustered on the same spur not far from Lake Koshkonong. Within a few years, the section of Highway 59 will also be the home of Lakeside Fire Rescue’s future central headquarters.

State traffic counts say the spur now sees between 17,000 and 23,000 vehicles daily.

On Thursday, Rock County’s Planning and Development Committee OK’d a land-division map that would place a Kwik Trip.

The lot now has a mix of woods and farm fields. It is adjacent to the Highway 59 roundabouts that funnel traffic on and off the busy Interstate 39/90 interchange.

Town of Fulton Clerk Laura Siclovan says the town OK’d a land division plan for the property, but so far, Kwik Trip has not forwarded more detailed site plans.

Elsewhere in Rock County, on Janesville’s south side, Kwik Trip is currently building a new 9,500-square-foot store.
