If you wonder when work starts at the future Children’s Museum of Rock County, mark your calendar for June.
Children’s Museum board member John Westphal says that is when the nonprofit group intends to start demolishing the unused, former bank drive-thru annex that is tied to the west side of the former First National Bank building in Janesville.
Westphal tells Big Radio the Children’s Museum of Rock County has raised $13.5 million. He says that brings the museum within $700,000 of its current fundraising goal for the project.
Renovations were slated to start last month at the former bank at 100 West Milwaukee Street. Westphal says construction costs are in flux and the project plans are still being tweaked.
He says The museum board wants to move ahead carefully with millions of dollars they have gotten from private donors.
Westphal says the bank’s drive-thru annex is the place to start because it is slated to be demolished is regardless of what final construction plans the museum group settles on.
