A death investigation is underway after a person suffered a gunshot wound in Evansville.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says Evansville police and fire personnel responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of South Madison Street shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday.
The person received first aid and was taken to a local hospital but later died. It’s not clear whether they died Sunday or Monday.
Evansville police asked the sheriff’s office to lead the investigation, which is ongoing. The sheriff’s office says there is no threat to the community but did not say whether another person is suspected of shooting the person who died or whether they were found outside or inside a home or other building.
