The Beloit School Board picks a broker to help the district facilitate potential real estate transactions.

Century 21 Affiliated got the nod Tuesday night on a 4-3 vote over Remax and Beloit Auction and Realty.

The district had been working with Caldwell Banker in Janesville on the potential sale of the McNeel and Wright school buildings and the lease of the district operations building on Fourth Street.

At a previous meeting, board members insisted on soliciting more bids to find a Beloit-based broker.

In the latest vote, board member Aimee Leavy was among the noes because she thought Century 21’s proposal was missing information, such as marketing costs.

Superintendent Dr. Willie Garrison says such specifics could come up during contract negotiations with the broker.

Declining enrollment has forced the district to repurpose, sell or donate other former school buildings across the city over the years.
