A whopping 45 percent of eligible voters in Rock County cast ballots in Tuesday’s election as a massively-funded state Supreme Court election spurred an unprecedented outcome.

County Clerk Lisa Tollefson says Tuesday drew twice as many voters compared to many recent spring elections. In fact, turnout eclipsed the 30,000 people who turned out for the 2024 spring election — and that was for a Presidential primary.

Tollefson says the 57,000 Rock County voters who voted absentee or in person Tuesday is a high water mark for a spring election here.

Tollefson says clerks countywide were prepared for a big turnout based on the massive ad campaigns the state Supreme Court race drew. She says they ordered extra ballots and staffed more poll workers — a prediction Tollefson says paid off.

And if you need more evidence that Tuesday’s election mobilized an uncommon number of voters, check this out:  Officials at a polling place on Janesville’s east side report that one voter told them Tuesday was the first election they’d voted in since Jimmy Carter was president.
