A 36-year-old Janesville woman accused of stealing a loaded gun from a vehicle over the weekend makes her initial appearance in Rock County Court.

Kimberly Kay Heaps is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, theft, and felony bail jumping.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim called Janesville Police to report a stolen gun after a witness observed a woman rifling through his vehicle.

The victim showed police where the gun was kept in his glove box, and showed police another concealed gun he kept in the unlocked vehicle.

Officers caught up with Kimberly Heaps in the 300 block of North High Street, and she matched the description of the person the witness saw.

After first denying the theft, officers eventually found the concealed loaded handgun in Heaps’ pocket. She told police in addition to the gun, she found an ounce of marijuana and a softball sized rock of crack in the victim’s glove box, which she did not take.

Heaps was given a $1,000 signature bond in Rock County Court Monday afternoon.
