One of two men accused of robbing a person of their wallet at gunpoint last month is sentenced to probation.
According to online court records, 20-year-old Jesus Garcia of Janesville plead guilty Wednesday afternoon to armed robbery with use of a dangerous weapon.
Rock County Judge Ashley Morse sentenced Garcia to five years of probation. If he doesn’t comply with the terms of probation, he will be sent to prison for three years.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim had arranged to sell a cellphone over Snapchat. He met Garcia and local profession boxer Lucas Labuguen in a parking lot on North Lexington Drive and they agreed on a price for the phone. Labuguen went back to the car he was in, and Garcia held a gun to the victim’s head and took his wallet from his pants pocket.
Labuguen made his professional boxing debut on Feb. 22 on a fight card in Janesville. He won his bout in a first-round knockout. He was also in Rock County Wednesday for a calendar call.
