A 24-year-old Beloit man who punched a 91-year-old man in the head after a fender bender could have his felony dismissed if he successfully completes probation.

According to online court records, Zachariah Nuber plead guilty Friday morning to physical abuse of an elder person and no contest to battery and disorderly conduct.

Rock County Judge Karl Hanson withheld his find of guilt on the first charge as part of a felony hold-open agreement, but found him guilty of the later two charges. Nuber was sentenced to 18 months of probation.

According to the criminal complaint, the elderly victim was traveling northbound on Spruce Street when he swerved to avoid a vehicle backing out of a driveway and hit a parked car.

Witnesses reported that Nuber – who was in the car that was backing out – jumped out of his vehicle and yelled at the victim before punching him in the face which caused him to fall down.

Nuber then fled the scene. Police later made contact with Nuber who claimed that he only yelled at the man and tried to prevent him from falling over.
