The curtain rises on the 20th edition of the Beloit International Film Festival.

Shows start at noon Friday, March 28, at venues across the city. Executive Director Greg Gerard says the first few days will focus on the films vying for this year’s BIFFy Awards.

One of those was written by Beloit Memorial High School graduate, Mallie McCown. It’s called “Dear Luke, Love Me,” and McCown stars as the female lead. Jonathan Bartz, another Beloit Memorial graduate, composed the score for the film.

Several special events will carry the festival’s second week. These include a showing of “Rudy” at ABC Supply Stadium on Thursday, April 3; a “Wizard of Oz” sing-along on Saturday, April 5; and a free showing of “The Princess Bride” to close the festival on Sunday, April 6.

Also new this year: a filmmaking challenge where teams will produce movies during the festival that will then be shown at the Beloit College Powerhouse on April 5.
