A Rock County man will be jailed for 35 years for repeated sexual assault of a child and first-degree sexual assault.
The victim, who was 12 years old at the time, reported to Beloit police in 2023 that she had been assaulted multiple times by then-48-year-old Berryl D. Hill.
Hill was close to the victim’s family and “like an uncle” to the victim. Prosecutors argued for a 50-year stay in the prison system and 35 years in custody. Judge Barbara McCrory sided with them on the duration for incarceration and went slightly lower on total time in the prison system — 44 years.
District Attorney Jason Sanders says “it took real guts” for the victim to talk about her ordeal and that he hopes she takes pride in her strength in doing so. The DA also lauded the work of Beloit police officer Tala Cornell and detective Amber Davies during their interviews with the victim.
