The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration issues a more than $16,000 penalty against a local power company following a fatal accident last fall at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says two people were participating in a demonstration during Rock Energy Cooperative’s employee appreciation event on October 19th when the bucket of a boom truck tilted about 10 feet in the air and dumped them out.
The medical examiner says 59-year-old Timothy Gillitzer of Milton was transported to a hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the accident. A 62-year-old woman was also injured.
According to a report from OSHA’s Madison office issued late last month, three of the bucket trucks that were being used that day either did not have personal fall arrest or travel restraint systems that meet requirements or they were not being used.
Officials with Rock Energy Cooperative declined a request to comment on the citation which OSHA classifies as serious.
