A 40-year-old Janesville man who fired a gun during a disturbance outside Discount Smoke and Spirits in July will serve a year of probation.

According to online court records Dennis Smith plead no contest Wednesday to discharging a firearm within 100 feet of a building. Rock County Judge Karl Hanson dismissed but read into the record additional charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety with use of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, Smith and another man argued inside the business on the 2500 block of Center Avenue around 1:00 p.m. on July 5th.

After Smith was pushed to the ground, he pulled a handgun and fired a round at the other man.
