Electric vehicle drivers could soon have a new place right off of the Interstate in Janesville to pop in for a charge.
A company founded by a group of major automakers is looking to build a 16 stall, stand-alone electric vehicle charging station – or rechargery – at 2081 Morse Street.
City Planner Trae Mayer says the Plan Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on April 7th.
According to its website, Ionna was founded by eight major automakers including BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Toyota, with the goal of building the leading nationwide electric vehicle charging network.
Ionna currently has charging stations all over the country, some of which have bathrooms and vending machines. Meyer says the one in Janesville would only have a canopy and no building.
