A stateline dairy farm leader is honored by an Illinois agriculture magazine.
Amy Hildebrandt, whose family runs Hildebrandt Farms about 5 miles east of South Beloit on State Line Road, was selected as one of four Illinois Master Farmers by Prairie Farmer Magazine.
The farm is home to more than 1,000 dairy cattle and 2,500 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa that all go into feed for the cows.
The farm also host group tours to explain what they do and clear up misconceptions about dairy farming. Groups they host include elementary school students, sustainability employees from corporations and aspiring clergy who might be placed in agricultural communities.
These days, Hildebrandt is in charge of keeping the books while three generations of her family work on the farm. She says she’s humbled by the honor and that she sees it as recognition for the whole family.
