Wisconsin’s two U.S. senators have found something they can agree on.

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson and Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin co-introduced a Senate bill that would expand federal funding opportunities for local governments to improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bill is named for Sarah Debbink Langenkamp, a Wisconsin native who was a U.S. diplomat. She died in 2022 after she was hit while riding her bike in Bethesda, Maryland.

The measure would allow communities to fund certain pedestrian and bike safety infrastructure entirely with federal dollars through a pair of existing programs.

Republican Rep. Bryan Steil of Janesville is one of the bill’s cosponsors in the House of Representatives.
