The Children’s Museum of Rock County gets a $1.5-million boost toward its future downtown Janesville building.
The nonprofit children’s museum announced Monday on its Facebook page that Woodman’s Food Market has donated the $1.5 million.
This is as the group has continued to raise cash to reshape a former bank near the West Milwaukee Street riverfront into a full-scale, multi-floor children’s museum.
The children’s museum says in lieu of a thank-you for Woodman’s donation, the children’s museum will include a replica Woodman’s Market grocery store as one of the center’s educational play areas.
The museum says the Woodman’s store will help kids learn about modern farm technology, and it will teach them the progression of food from farm to table.
Woodman’s was a major donor to a separate project, the multi-million dollar, public-private Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center. The Janesville-based grocer provided a lead, private gift to build the facility, landing top naming rights for the future ice hockey, sports and convention center at Uptown Janesville.
The children’s museum has raised $13 million so far for the project. The group intends to break ground this spring on the year-long build out.
