|Big Radio News| As part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, SSM Health is educating the public about the ways to prevent colon cancer.
SSM Health gastroenterologist Dr. Abby Lochmann-Bailkey believes everyone should get screened for colon cancer.
The current recommendation is to start colon cancer screenings at the age of 45. However, there are some circumstances that someone may get screened earlier, including a family history of colorectal cancer. Lochmann-Bailkey says there is no reason to be worried about getting a colonoscopy, but there are alternatives. Preventative screenings are available at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville.
