A 36-year-old Beloit man who is accused in a June 2024 drive-by shooting takes a plea deal in Rock County Court.
According to online court records, Dequan Simms plead guilty to first degree-recklessly endangering safety, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Judge John Wood dismissed but read into the record additional charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Simms was sentenced to a total of five years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
According to the criminal complaint, Simms shot at a house on Royce Avenue that had half a dozen people on the front porch, because he had a beef with one of the residents.
While no one was hurt, several nearby homes were struck by gunfire.
