| By Big Radio News Staff | Students at Milton High School will continue using MacBooks next year despite a pilot program this fall finding that Chromebooks would cost less, require fewer repairs, and are preferred by teachers.

According to a district memo, the lease price for each Apple MacBook will be $879. The Chromebooks used for the pilot program that included 9th graders cost $276 to lease.

The MacBooks have a breakage rate of 17 percent with an average repair cost of $273. Chromebooks have a 9 percent breakage rate with the average repair costing $64.

92 percent of the teachers that participated in the pilot program say they prefer the Chromebooks because the MacBooks allow students to run applications unrelated to curriculum like Roblox and Fortnite.

The vote to stick with MacBooks despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary was four to three with Tracy Hannah, Ed Snow, Annette Smith, and John Dummer for MacBooks, and Joe Martin, Rick Mullen, and Jennifer Johns for Chromebooks.
