The Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport saw a 20-year high for operations in 2024.
Airport Director Aimee Scrima told the airport board last Monday there was a total of 68,022 takeoffs and landings last year. It was the first time the airport topped 68,000 since 2004.
Scrima says about 13,000 of those operations were the result of hosting the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s National Aviation Championship last spring.
Teams from 32 colleges flew into the airport for the event that included competitions in preflight inspections, air traffic communication, navigation and landing.
Scrima says the event generated about $1 million in economic activity. She says the airport would be interested in hosting regional competition for the flying association in the future.
