An unexpected glut of building permits gives the city of Milton a little extra money to spend.

The city pulled in nearly $240,000 more than budgeted via building permits in 2024. The city issued 111 permits last year compared to 26 in 2023.

In all, the city generated $458,000 more in revenue than budgeted.

Milton’s Common Council passed an amendment to the 2024 budget Wednesday night to spend that money.

More than $201,000 will go into the city’s capital fund for future unidentified expenses.

Other expenditures include $40,000 for a Toolcat utility vehicle; $26,000 for a chipper box; $20,000 for new library signage; $15,000 for designs to upgrade the library’s HVAC system; and $13,000 for ballistic shields.

The full list of added expenditures can be found here.
