Janesville’s recently vacated Big Lots store is on the market. A local broker says the space at 1800 Milton Avenue will likely draw another retail business.

Adam Schulz is a Janesville broker who is marketing the 30,000-square-foot space.

Schulz says the Big Lots at first caught the eye of a group looking to launch an indoor pickleball space. Schulz says the pickleball option evaporated after the group realized that ceiling supports throughout the building would get in the way of game play.

Schulz says he’s hearing interest in the former Big Lots from multiple retailers and bargain retailers, including one that’s looked at the building several times in the past few weeks.

Big Lots has shuttered hundreds of stores in the last few months, including Janesville, as the discount retailer deals with ongoing impacts of inflation.

It’s one of four other vacant, midsize retail spaces on the Milton Avenue corridor now on the market. That includes the former Slumberland building at 3023 Milton Avenue.
