A major update in a Janesville shooting case.

Janesville police say Deonte Foster, 41, the Janesville man who had been charged with attempted murder after a shooting in the 300 block of North High Street on Dec. 17, will now face a first-degree homicide charge after the victim died from his injuries.

Foster pleaded not guilty to the attempted homicide charge last month.

Prosecutors say Foster shot a man in the chest in an apartment building on North High Street where Foster and the victim were neighbors. The victim was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition before his recent death.

Foster, who also faces a charge of felon in possession of a firearm, avoided being taken into custody for more than two weeks before his arrest in early January.

Cerissa Cleveland, 35, is charged with harboring Foster in the days between the shooting and his arrest.
