An apparent fire breaks out at a South Beloit metal recycling facility.
WIFR-TV in Rockford is reporting a column of smoke was rising from Behr Iron and Metal Recycling Center in the 200 block of Wheeler Avenue. The facility is less than 1,000 feet from the state line. The plume of smoke was visible for miles.
Big Radio is trying to learn more about the incident, but calls to town of Beloit fire officials who run the South Beloit Fire Department went to voicemail Monday afternoon, and a dispatcher with the Winnebago County communications center said she couldn’t provide further information.
