Beloit school officials grapple with a board compensation snafu.
Since 2019, board members have been paid $475 a month for their work despite board policy that says they should be paid $450.
To correct the overpayments for the current board, which came together after the 2024 spring election, the district’s Executive Director of Business Services Bob Chady took the step to inform board members last December that they would be paid just $400 monthly through April.
Board President Tia Johnson said she was less concerned about the money than she was about district staff making that move without board input — though she said every dollar matters given the district’s current budget crunch.
Board members voted 4-2 with one abstention to waive current policy and implement Chady’s fix.
Board Vice President Brian Nichols voted no because he thought the current board should pay back the overpayments.
