United Way’s Blackhawk Region seeks a new director as CEO Lisa Hurda leaves after just three months at the helm of the nonprofit.
In an announcement Monday evening, United Way Blackhawk Board Chairman Tom McCawley says United Way Blackhawk Vice President Denise Peters Kauihou is named acting CEO.
McCawley does not explain Hurda’s departure. United Way issued a statement Monday saying Hurda and the United Way have “parted ways.” McCawley says the agency is grateful for contributions Hurda made since taking the helm in October.
McCawley says United Way volunteers have shifted into to a transition plan “expediently.”
Hurda follows former United Way director Mary Fanning-Penny as the second director of United Way Blackhawk to resign in the last year. Fanning left in March 2024 after a decade at the helm.
Kauihou, a 14-year fixture at United Way, is not pursuing the top role permanently. She steps in as United Way enters its busy, annual Community Grant process.
