A recently opened Janesville eatery wants to tap the outdoor dining market.

Franklin Street Tavern is asking Janesville’s Alcohol License Advisory Committee on Tuesday for the OK to set up a 45-foot stretch of sidewalk along North Franklin Street for four tables of patio dining.

The tavern at 13 N. Franklin St. advertises specialty wood-fired pizzas, burgers, mac and cheese dishes and handmade cocktails. The address has been home to several restaurants over the years.

Current owners Joe and Ed Quaerna operate the adjacent O’Riley and Conway’s Irish Pub.

They sought and were granted permission to temporarily run outdoor dining during the 2024 Janesville Downtown Gran Prix bike races. That seating was in a parking area next to the bar.

The permanent seating the Franklin Street Tavern seeks would be along the terrace and sidewalk adjacent to the restaurant and an adjoining storefront.
