State Assembly Rep. Ann Roe of Janesville says she’s on board with Gov. Tony Evers’ proposal to spend more state money to provide mental health services in schools.
During his State of the State speech last week, Evers said his biennial budget proposal will include $300 million for comprehensive mental health services in schools statewide.
The previous state budget included $30 million for such services.
Roe, a member of the Assembly Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse Prevention, says there aren’t enough resources to help students who have shown they need help facing mental health challenges.
She says leaving those challenges unaddressed can lead to other problems that adversely affect individuals and society at large.
GOP lawmakers can be expected to scrap many of Evers’ budget proposals and craft a state spending plan of their own in the coming months.
