Janesville officials are investigating the cause of a residential fire near the city’s center. A fire department news release reports firefighters were called to a four-unit apartment building in the 400 block of Franklin Street at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The first units to arrive found black smoke and fire showing from the second story and burning into the attic. Firefighters confirmed everyone had evacuated. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $175,000.
