A Beloit woman is accused of trying to sell a home she didn’t own. Police say a person contacted Beloit police on January 7th stating that she was in the process of beginning a rent-to-own home contract with a woman she believed to be a home salesperson named Elia. The person had sent Elia several payments totaling over seven-thousand-dollars, but was told she couldn’t move into the home on Shopiere Road because the person living there was disabled and needed time to move out.
Police contacted the owner of the home, who said they had no intention of selling or renting his home, and hadn’t given consent to use his address to promote or sell it. Law enforcement set up an operation to arrest Elia, but her wife, Maricruz Casique, showed up instead. She claimed that she and her wife buy and sell houses. However, she didn’t reveal why she was collecting money from a person for a house they didn’t own. Casique faces charges of theft and identity theft.
