The Monroe Police Department is warning the community about a possible email scam. A Monroe resident reported receiving an email from an unknown entity regarding a COVID 19 payment from the IRS. The email requested the recipient send personal information in order to receive the check. The IRS normally wouldn’t send this type of email and the check would come by mail or be put into your account electronically. Not to mention, the IRS already has your personal information. Residents are urged to carefully read their emails to avoid scams like this.
