Firefighters from Lakeside Fire Rescue battle the extreme cold at the same time they battle a garage fire in the town of Harmony.
Pickering says a passerby called 911 after seeing smoke billowing from a detached garage 56-hundred block of East Rotamer Road in the Town of Harmony just after midnight. Crews were able to knock down the blaze before it destroyed the garage or spread to the house.
Pickering says mutual aid was called in so that fire crews could rotate and warm up as needed.
Pickering says fighting a fire in the extreme cold does present its challenges. Once you open the fire hydrant and get the water flowing, you can’t shut it off until the fire is out. Pickering says it does make for an icy mess.
