Deonte Foster pleads not guilty plea in his attempted first-degree homicide case.
Foster is the man prosecutors say shot a neighbor in an apartment building in the 300 block of North High Street in Janesville last month.
In jail court with Judge Ashley Morse on Friday, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will proceed to trial, though the sides can reach a plea agreement any time.
After Morse accepted Foster’s waiver, public defender Melissa Frost entered a not guilty plea for her client.
Foster is being held at the Rock County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond. The shooting he is alleged to have committed occurred on Dec. 17 and left the victim in critical condition.
Foster dodged police custody until his arrest on Jan. 3.
