Janesville’s top tourism official says her firm is knee deep in scouting and recruiting future convention and youth sports users for the future Woodman’s Center.

Janesville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Christine Rebout says her tourism group has about a dozen convention groups and sports user prospects in a queue ready to book space for events they’d host at the Woodman’s Center.

Rebout’s group has agreed to provide marketing and labor to try to land users who’d lease 35,000 square feet of non-ice space at the Woodman’s Center laid aside as convention and athletic hard court space.

Rebout says for now, a wide variety of sports, including gymnastics groups and wrestling, are top prospects for bookings of the non-ice sports space at the arena at Uptown Janesville.

Convention prospects have emerged both locally and statewide as area trade groups and nonprofits look to book a larger-scale convention space between Rockford and Madison.

Rebout says her tourism bureau will soon start giving tours of the convention and hard court spaces.
