The city of Janesville has not come up for air in talks to buy the General Motors site. But city officials say there’s been no breakdown in negotiations over the 250-acre property.
City spokesperson Nick Faust says he’s not sure when the city might close on the former auto plant property and haul-away yard. He says the city and GM site owner Commercial Development Company remain at the bargaining table over a sale price for the property.
The city council canceled a closed-session meeting it slated Monday to get briefed on the talks.
Faust says most recent talks with Commercial Development lacked a “significant update” or “inflection point” that would have warranted council review.
The city is forcing the sale through a condemnation process, but Faust says talks with Commercial Development seem to remain pointed at a negotiated sale.
He says there’s no indication negotiations have stalled to a point that forces the city to shift to a more hard-line legal measure … to sue Commercial Development and seek a local judge’s ruling on sale price for the GM site.
