An Edgerton man is accused of stealing money from his own mother.
Prosecutors say a woman reported to police on Dec. 10 that she became the power of attorney for her grandmother, who was living in hospice care in Edgerton. The woman said she discovered that her grandma’s debit card had been used numerous times without her permission, equaling more than $2,900 in fraudulent charges and withdrawals.
Prosecutors allege Frederick Hickethier, the victim’s 53-year-old son, was behind the thefts. The victim told police her son was a drug addict who didn’t have a job and that she previously had given him permission to use her debit card for groceries but hadn’t authorized any additional withdrawals. Hickethier is charged with identity theft for financial gain.
