The city of Janesville’s Dawson Fields softball complex is in line for some upgrades in lighting.
City Recreation Director Shelley Slapak says the lights at the four-field Dawson complex on the city’s east side need to be replaced because equipment and types of lights used in the lighting system are becoming obsolete.
Slapak says the city wants to replace the lights in part because the city’s seeing growing interest in the Dawson Fields for nighttime softball leagues and tournaments.
Slapak says it might cost around $1.5 million to replace the lights.
Slapak says the city must still design a new lighting system. The actual work would come in 2026. She says the city also aims to revamp some of the buildings and concrete-paved spectator areas at Dawson, too.
For now, softball fans will play and watch games under lights that have been at the complex decades. But Slapak says if new lighting comes, it’ll benefit a user group at Dawson Fields that’s grown to 50 different softball teams.
